Will your idea take at least 5 years of research and work? If so, it might be worth while. If it takes any less time, it probably won’t pan out.

College is 4 years and when you get out, you’re still not prepared. Now if you worked on your plan every day in earnest for 5+ years, then you may find massive success. At worst, you’ll be an expert in the field and in high demand.
